Hepatitis A Surge in Hong Kong: Why Testing Matters

Hepatitis alert

Every doctor knows that stopping a disease is better than treating it. In Hong Kong, Hepatitis A is coming back. It used to be linked to dirty shellfish or trips to places with poor sanitation. New research shows a different story.

Health officials found a group of cases from late 2025 to early 2026 that share the same virus family. The spread is now mostly from person to person, especially among men who have sex with men. This change means the virus can travel without food or travel.

Knowing whether you are immune is the safest step you can take. If you belong to a group at higher risk, travel a lot, or enjoy raw seafood, a quick test can tell you if you need a vaccine.
