Polysomnography, also called a sleep study, is a test doctors use to see how you sleep. Tiny sensors are placed on your head, chest, and fingers while you lie in bed.
The sensors record things like breathing, heart beats, eye movements, and brain activity. All this information helps find problems such as obstructive sleep apnea.
During the test you just try to sleep like usual. The equipment does not wake you up. After the night is over, a specialist looks at the data and decides if treatment is needed.
